Some fans have called for the UFC to follow the example of a Russian promoter and stop Israel Adesanya’s “boring” fights.
Recently, in Russia, an MMA promoter from the country’s top organization stepped in during a fight and stopped it when only four rounds had been fought. Promoter Mairbek Khasiev then issued a statement explaining his actions and confirming that he had cancelled the bout due to lack of action and initiative from the fighters.
Fans jumped in to give their opinion after the events went viral on social media, comparing the situation to Adesanya’s most recent fights. One fan wrote: “Dear Dana White, please do this to @stylebender. Dear Alex Pereira, please end this boring run of Adesanya”. Another agreed without naming Adesanya: “MMA needs more of this. Especially in the UFC middleweight division when ‘a certain someone’ is fighting.”
Another fan called for the promoter to be present at Adesanya’s next fight, “Where was this guy during Adesanya’s last title defense?” Despite the criticism, Adesanya has only lost one fight in his career and is currently the second highest earner in the UFC, behind only Conor McGregor, after signing a lucrative new contract.
