The bout between Diaz and Chimaev, scheduled for UFC 279 on September 10 in Las Vegas, will last five rounds. After a lengthy and impressive career, Diaz will likely retire from the promotion after the fight.
The Californian and UFC president Dana White have been at war, with the Diaz saying that he was being held “hostage” despite his increasingly frantic attempts to escape the company. He even requested a fight against Jake Paul and at the time Dana seemed to agree to it.
Instead, he will make his final appearance in the octagon as he ends a career that will be mainly known for his two fights with Conor McGregor in 2016. After submitting McGregor in the second round of their initial encounter, Diaz handed the Irishman his first UFC loss. Five months later, Diaz lost the rematch on points.
